Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza has poked fun of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for supposedly being paranoid over an alleged coup plot in the House leadership.
“Napapraning siya sa kanyang sariling pagkukulang, sa kanyang sariling pagkakamali,” said Atienza in phone interview with Politiko/Abante.
Atienza said Cayetano’s latest accusation that Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco is planning to stage a leadership scuffle in the Lower House and even has promised committee chairmanships and huge amount of allocations per district is not only “unfair” but “below the belt.”
“Kalokohan na yan. That is below the belt and that’s not fair,” said Atienza.
Atienza added that Velasco doesn’t meddle in any affairs in the Lower House out of respect to the term-sharing deal between him and Cayetano.
Atienza stressed that Cayetano is very susceptible for throwing that kind of accusation since due to the fact that the Speaker himself has several shortcomings leader of the Lower Chamber.
“Speaker Cayetano is getting scared of his own shadow. Ang dami mo kasing ginagawang kalokohan kaya natatakot ka,” said Atienza.
“Marami siyang pagkakamali that’s why he’s very susceptible to that kind of information,” the former Manila mayor added.
Cayetano claimed that Velasco has talked to at least 20 key congressmen to ensure the success of the alleged coup plot, promising committee chairmanships and huge chunk of budget allocation for their respective districts.
But Velasco hours before Cayetano’s statement has already issued a denial over the matter, saying he is bound to respect their gentlemen’s agreement since if was upon President Rodrigo Duterte’s recommendation.
