Presidential material! Sara lauds Bato after outshining Otso Diretso bets in CNN debate

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin – Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) chairperson Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte lauded administration senatorial bet and former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for outshining opposition rivals during the senatorial debate sponsored by CNN Philippines.
In an ambush interview in Mambajao, Camiguin, Mayor Duterte said Dela Rosa’s performance during the senatorial debate proved he can be a presidential material in the future after he did well in raising points on social issues.
“We are happy on General Bato’s performance during the debate and what I said to him a while ago, because of his performance on the debate, he could be the next president of the country,” she said.
Dela Rosa last Saturday was cool enough to handle heated discussion inside a jammed-pack Quadricentennial Pavillion inside the Universtiy of Santo Tomas (UST) despite being ganged up by senatorial candidates from the Liberal Party-led Otso Diretso coalition especially on matters regarding the Duterte administration’s war on drugs and pivot to China policy.
From the water crisis to the drug war to the China debt trap, Dela Rosa took the microphone to parry criticisms against Duterte’s policies.
No less than Sen. Panfilo Lacson, Dela Rosa’s former boss in the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF), believed that his ex-subordinate “single handedly” outwitted and demolished his opposition rivals.
“Watching Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa single handedly and gamely taking on Otso Diretso (minus two) candidates on a number of issues makes me stop wondering why he consistently ranks high in the senatorial surveys,” Lacson said in his Twitter post right after the debate.
