Presidential Task Force on Media Security to probe Dumaguete reporter’s slay
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday (May 7) said he has ordered the The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) to also investigate the killing of radio broadcaster Cornelio Pepino in Dumaguete City.
“I have given instructions to the Presidential Task Force on Media Security to probe this latest incident,” said the PTFoMS co-chairman.
“If necessary, I will also direct the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) to render assistance to the task force or conduct a parallel investigation,” he added.
Pepino works as a reporter and announcer of DYMD ENERGY 93.7 FM.
He was with his wife riding his motorcycle when he was fired upon by motorcycle-riding assailants in Barangay Daro while on their home on May 5.
“We let the NBI step in whenever the PNP faces a blank wall or when there is reasonable basis to believe that other law enforcers may be involved,” Guevarra said.
