Private hospitals’ group call on Duterte to fire Duque: Pangako niya napapako!
The Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines Incorporated (PHAPI) has asked President Rodrigo Duterte to fire Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, saying they’ve had enough of the Department of Health’s (DOH) unfulfilled promises.
In a statement Monday (May 25), PHAPI president Dr. Rustico Jimenez said private hospitals have been given the runaround by the DOH and PhilHealth about the interim reimbursement mechanism (IRM).
“Although some have already received their share, most however are now so financially drained as they are still waiting for the promised IRM,” he said.
PHAPI counts 744 private hospitals nationwide as members.
PhilHealth, which is chaired by Duque, set aside P30 billion as IRM to help hospitals and other healthcare institutions provide medical care to patients.
Jimenez said it is time for Duque to be replaced by “someone who can deliver the goods better in addressing the health concerns of the country.”
“We have high regards for him (Duque) as one among our esteemed colleagues in the healthcare industry but he seems to be already so exhausted that there is need for fresh blood and a fresh mind to lead the Department of Health and the PhilHealth,” he said.
