President Rodrigo Duterte has given the green light to review the lease agreement between the University of the Philippines (UP) and Ayala Land Inc.
This, after an online article claimed that the Ayalas are renting the 37-hectare land along Commonwealth Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City at P22 per square meter a month.
“I told the President about this and ang reaksyon ni Presidente, eh di tingnan natin kung totoo yung allegasyon ng article na yun. So, we will investigate, we will review, para malaman natin kung totoo o hindi,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Thursday.
Panelo said either the Department of Justice or the Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel will investigate the UP-Ayala Technohub deal.
“Ire-review mo lang naman e. You just make an opinion about it,” according to him.
Ayala Land earlier clarified that the lease rate paid to UP is P171 per square meter. When the contract expires in 12 years, UP will own the land, including the 16 commercial buildings in the complex.
