The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) aims to register 5 million Filipinos under the national identification system this year, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

In a virtual Laging Handa public briefing aired over state-run PTV, NEDA Acting Secretary Karl Chua said they plan to have “80 to 90 million” people registered before the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term in 2022.

The NEDA chief also stressed the need to fast track the implementation of the national ID system to ensure the timely delivery of social benefits.

Chua explained.
