Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. has cursed supporters of the jeepney modernization program as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) allowed the limited operation of traditional jeepneys.

“Shame on all who want to drive jeepney drivers deeper into their extreme poverty and abolish the only genewwine symbol of our race. Putangina niyo lahat . Walang awa. Walang hiya,” Locsin tweeted Friday (July 3).

His tweet was a response to the remark of ABS-CBN journalist Lynda Jumilla, who expressed incredulity over the anecdote of a jeepney driver who took out a P10,000 loan to retrofit his vehicle to comply with the LTFRB’s standards.

“This breaks my heart. how will he able to pay the 10,000?” Jumilla asked.

LTFRB allowed traditional jeepneys to ply 49 approved routes starting Friday provided they are “registered roadworthy.”
