A staunch critic of ABS-CBN used an iconic line delivered by the late action star Fernando Poe Jr., known as FPJ, to deliver a final threat against the network, which owns the rights to the actor’s movies.
At the summation of arguments for and against ABS-CBN Thursday (July 9), SAGIP party-list Rodante Marcoleta played an excerpt from Poe’s 1987 blockbuster movie, “Kapag Puno Na Ang Salop.”
It was the movie where Poe delivered the line, “Puno na ang salop, malapit na kitang kalusin.”
Marcoleta said: “To sum up the comprehensive, impartial, and open proceedings implored by the Speaker of the House, Alan Peter Cayetano, in regard to the franchise application of ABS-CBN, ang sabi nga po ni FPJ, Mr. Chair, kung uulitin ko lang ABS-CBN, puno na ang salop dapat ka nang kalusin.”
The lawmaker, who’s part of Iglesia Ni Cristo, said it was clear from the 12 hearings conducted by the House of Representatives that ABS-CBN committed several legal violations, including failure to pay the correct amount of taxes and flouting the Constitutional ban on foreign media ownership.
Marcoleta also claimed ABS-CBN was guilty of political bias and violating labor laws.
