Puro buwis lang ang alam! Anti-corruption watchdog wants Sonny Dominguez to resign
An anti-corruption watchdog wants Finance Secretary Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez to resign in the wake of the corruption scandals hounding two agencies under him: the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
In a statement, the Coalition Against Corruption (CAC) said Dominguez “has not shown any visible initiative” to curb corruption in the BIR and BOC.
“On the contrary, Secretary Carlos ‘Sonny’ Dominguez III has been deathly silent about the drugs and corruption imbroglio that has engulfed the BOC recently. His demeanor certainly raises a lot of eyebrows,” the group said.
Close to three years since Dominguez assumed office, CAC said the Finance Secretary has yet to show any effort to fight corruption.
“Instead your strategy was to impose more taxes that caused untold suffering to nation. New taxes would have been unnecessary if only there were NO LEAKAGES IN REVENUE COLLECTION and NO FUNDS MISSPENDING,” it said.
The group said Dominguez should resign if he cannot join President Rodrigo Duterte’s fight againsts corruption.
The BOC was recently in the headlines due to the multibillion-peso shabu shipment that allegedly slipped past its personnel in July.
