A former member of the ruling PDP Laban party admitted that the tightly-contested speakership row as well as the distribution committee chairmanships and memberships have caused division among members of President Duterte’s political entity.
San Jose del Monte Rep. Rida Robes said many of its members acted like “guerilla” within the ruling party particularly those who in favor and against the term-sharing deal between House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
“Noon, kami po ay nagkakaroon na ng guerilla pagdating sa Speakership,” said Robes.
Robes, one of the 15 congressmen who decided to part ways with PDP, also disclosed there were misunderstandings among some members of PDP Laban in the House which stemmed from the distribution chairmanships and memberships of various House panel.
“You really have to wait kung kailan ka mabibigyan ng committee. Siguro dun talaga nagkakaroon ng konting higing higing na meron talagang paksyon,” said Robes.
Politiko learned on Sunday that around 30 PDP district legislators were disappointed with some members of the party leadership in the Lower House particularly Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzales, Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel and Oriental Mindoro Rep. Salvador Leachon.
The three party honchos allegedly “abandoned” their other party mates after securing key positions in the House leadership.
Gonzales, PDP Laban executive vice president, and Pimentel were elected deputy speakers while Leachon was named chairman of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET).
“Kanya-kanya kami ng trabaho… so ang feeling lang ng iba, maybe, sinasabi nila, bakit ako wala pa eh,” said Robes.
Robes has no problem with the top honchos of the administration party especially PDP president Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and party vice-chair Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi but leadership of the House delegation was another matter.
The lady solon on Tuesday took her oath as one of the new members of the National Unity Party (NUP).
