Pwede sa Bayanihan 1! Dick defends Philhealth’s P100-M advance payment to PH Red Cross
Senator Richard Gordon said Wednesday (September 16) there’s nothing wrong with the P100 million advanced by Philhealth to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to conduct COVID-19 tests.
Gordon, PRC’s chairman, said the payment was allowed under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
The senator explained that PRC was identified in the law as an organization that the government can work with to fight COVID-19.
Gordon said there was also no conflict of interest in his being a politiko at the same time as leading PRC.
Critics earlier claimed Gordon and PRC violated the law when they accepted Philhealth’s advance payment for COVID-19 tests. They said the state health insurer can only reimburse costs for actual medical treatments at accredited medical facilities.
Gordon, however, dares those who accuse him of wrongdoing to sue him.
