Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano said the government can give his proposed P10,000 per family subsidy in two tranches.
Cayetano, who led a group of congressmen in filing House Bill 8597 was optimistic that the government can fund the proposal which is only half of the proposed P420 billion Bayanihan to Arise as One or Bayanihan 3.
“So, for example lang, there is a choice. Sabihin mong hindi nagkasundo na may pera for P10,000, eh ‘di pauna – two gives – ‘di ba, sanay naman tayo sa hulugan, ‘di ba? So, mauna muna P5,000. At least, may pera na sa bulsa nung tao, kasi marami nga po talagang medyo nawawalan ng pag-asa at hindi nakikita ‘yung tinatawag na light at the end of the tunnel. So, kailangan ipakita natin sa kanila, ang gobyerno, kasama nila parati,” said Cayetano.
House Bill 8597 proposed to give P10,000 subsidy or P1,500 per family member whichever is higher. The measure is pending before the House Committee on Social Services.
“So, gusto ko lang po ipaalala sa lahat, lalo na sa ating kasama sa Kamara, na extraordinary times, extraordinary measure. Kung talagang may pangangailangan ang tao, if we have to drop everything at unahin muna sila, unahin ‘tong gagawin,” added Cayetano.
He said that many Filipinos are still jobless since the economy has not been fully reopened due to the threat of COVID-19.
Cayetano expressed belief that his measure is more important than Charter change being pushed in the House of Representatives.
“So, ang ating pinapakiusap lang, teamwork ulit, walang pulitikahan. Isantabi muna natin, for example, inuuna ‘yung Cha-cha…. ‘Pag ito inupuan natin, with the economic team, with the senators, with the congressmen, makakahanap tayo ng pondo at medyo makakaangat ang ating mga kababayan, because, as I said, nahuli na tayo sa bakuna. ‘Yung iba nating mga bansa nakikita natin, ini-implement na ‘yung bakuna. So, nangangamba ako na ‘pag nag-fully operational na ‘yung ekonomiya nung ibang bansa ay lalo tayong malubog sa economic crisis. So, this will help us at this point in time and it will help our economy,” the former speaker added.
