Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured on Friday (Aug. 21) that the Chinese nationals who have been selling products that state that Manila is a province of China will have to be punished first before getting deported.
Guevarra pointed this out after Manila Mayor Isko Moreno called for the deportation of the two Chinese owners of the Binondo establishment that has been selling these products.
Moreno has already ordered the closure of the establishment.
“Willful or malicious violation of domestic laws, rules and regulations is a ground for deportation after an alien has been duly prosecuted and penalized in our country,” Guevarra said.
The secretary believes that the Chinese nationals could be held liable for mislabeling.
“If the product itself has not been approved for local use by the FDA (Food and Drugs Authority), the violation takes on a more serious character,” he pointed out.
