Recto backs renewal of ABS-CBN franchise: Kapamilya network delivers quality programs to Filipinos
Kapamilya to the rescue!
A measure seeking the renewal of the ABS-CBN broadcasting corporations’ franchise for another 25 years has been filed by Senator Ralph Recto.
Senate Bill No. 981 allows the Lopez-owned television network to construct, install, operate and maintain television and radio broadcasting stations in the country.
The tv network’s franchise is set to expire on March 30, 2020.
“Despite the growing popularity of social media, television still remains as a preferred mass medium in our provinces and other far-flung areas. ABS-CBN has remained steadfast in its commitment to reach out to as many Filipinos as possible by delivering their quality core programs closer to our countrymen by taking advantage of emergency broadcast technologies,” Recto said in an explanatory note of the bill.
“In view of the foregoing, the approval of the bill is earnestly sought,” he added.
The filing of the Senate bill came even as President Duterte has openly declared he would block the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN television network. He previously branded the network as thieves for taking his money without airing his campaign advertisement in 2016.
