Recto, Batangas politikos jumping ship to Nacionalista

By Xave Gregorio

Batangas politikos led by Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto would be jumping ship to the Nacionalista Party, according to its national director, Senator Cynthia Villar.

Villar confirmed to Politiko that Recto, his wife 6th District Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto, and other Batangas politikos would be taking their oath tomorrow as Nacionalista members, strengthening their presence in the province.

“Basta ‘yung buong Batangas except ‘yung district ni [Rep. Ma. Theresa] Collantes (3rd District), all Nacionalista [members] na,” Villar said in a chance interview Thursday (September 20).

Aside from Recto’s group, Villar is also expecting politikos from Pangasinan, Negros Oriental and Iloilo to jump fences for Nacionalista.

Recto is currently a member of the formerly ruling Liberal Party. Before this, he was a member of Lakas – Christian Muslim Democrats, the ruling party during the time of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Recto began his political career in 1986 under the Nacionalista Party, founded by his grandfather former Senator Claro M. Recto.
