In a reversal of fortunes, Camarines Sur Rep. Lray Villafuerte on Wednesday was stripped of his deputy speakership and replaced by 1-Pacman party-list Rep. Mikee Romero just a week after the latter was removed from the same position by the former House leadership.
Oriental Mindoro Rep. Doy Leachon, who lost his deputy speakership in March for supporting newly-installed Speaker and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, also regained his post.
Romero and Leachon are among Velasco’s top backers in the speakership battle with former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
Leachon replaced Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, who quit the No. 2 position voluntarily and was rewarded on Tuesday with the House accounts committee, which is responsible for handling the internal budget of the House.
Also on Tuesday, another Velasco ally, Ilocos Sur Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan was elected as vice chair of the accounts committee.
Another Velasco loyalist who regained her post was Quezon Rep. Angelina Helen Tan, who was reinstated as chair of the House health committee on Tuesday, a week after she was removed from that position.
The revamp was the latest in a series of changes in the new House leadership after Velasco successfully staged a coup against former Speaker and Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday.
