Resign na! Hilbay slams Panelo’s conflict of interest in Sanchez plea for executive clemency
Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay has railed against Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo after he reportedly referred the proposed execute clemency for convicted rapist and killer Antonio Sanchez to the parole board.
“This is clear conflict of interest on the part of Panelo, who was Sanchez’s lawyer,” Hilbay tweeted.
“Under normal circumstances, this kind of corruption leads to resignation or immediate dismissal,” he added.
Bureau of Pardons and Parole executive director Reynaldo Bayang bared in a Senate inquiry that Panelo wrote him a letter forwarding the request of the Sanchez’ family for executive clemency.
Panelo has earlier denied he intervened in the case of Sanchez since he quit as his defense counsel in 1995.
