The first batch of Filipinos repatriated from China, where the deadly novel coronavirus is believed to have originated, is scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on Saturday, Malacañang said.
The returning overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs) will arrive at the Clark International Airport and will be brought to Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija for quarantine, according to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
“President (Rodrigo) Duterte expressed his concerns about the welfare of the Filipinos flying from China or its Special Administrative Regions to the country. (Health) Secretary (Francisco) Duque (III) reported that they are now preparing Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija as a quarantine area, which can accommodate 10,000 individuals,” Panelo said Wednesday.
Duterte, he added, also instructed Duque to visit the site to “properly address the people affected in detail.”
Forty-two Filipinos have expressed desire to be repatriated from China.
