Returning the favor: Xi Jinping to visit PH in November

It’s now Chinese President Xi Jinping’s turn to visit the Philippines after President Rodrigo Duterte made several visits to China since the start of his term.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday (April 11) said Xi will fly to the Philippines after attending the leaders’ meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Papua New Guinea.

The APEC Summit will take place from November 12 to 18.

Xi’s visit comes amid the improving relationship between the Philippines and China.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who was recently in Hainan, China for the Boao Economic Forum, expressed elation over Xi’s reelection.

He also thanked his Chinese counterpart for help during the Marawi siege.

Xi’s last visit to the Philippines was in November 2015 for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

Duterte, meanwhile, has visited China three times: in October 2016, May 2017, and April this year.
