The National Economic and Development Authority and the Department of Budget and Management have already signed the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Rice Tariffication Act for Rice Industry Modernization, Malacanang said.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Tuesday said the IRR for rice tariff law was one of the topics tackled during the 36th Cabinet meeting on Monday night.
“It is still pending with the legal department of the Department of Agriculture,” according to him.
“The IRR is expected to formulate a rice industry roadmap for the development of this sector,” he added.
In February, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11203, a measure that will remove all import restrictions on rice to ensure steady supply of rice in the country.
