The Senate opposition bloc is “determined” to oppose any move to extend martial law in Mindanao beyond the December 31, 2017 deadline granted by Congress.
The opposition senators made the remark in a joint statement Saturday amid the plan of the military and local officials in Marawi City to seek an extension of martial law in Mindanao to ensure the smooth rehabilitation of the war-torn city.
“We propose that the martial law in Mindanao be lifted as soon as possible so that we can all focus on the rehabilitation of the devastated lives and livelihoods of the people of Marawi City and nearby areas,” said Senate Minority Leader Frank Drilon.
