‘Robredo believes a Sara Duterte win is inevitable’ — Almario
Davao Oriental Rep. Joel Mayo Almario on Monday said Vice President Leni Robredo had tacitly admitted in a TV interview that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte would win in the 2022 presidential election.
“I could be wrong, but I take the Vice President’s statement ‘It’s difficult to say what can prevent (another Duterte as president)” as an implication that she believes a Sara Duterte win is inevitable,” the lawmaker said in a statement.
Almario was referring to Robredo’s recent comments in a Bloomberg TV interview, in which she said that “having another Duterte as president would not be surprising.”
This, according to the Mindanao solon, “is her indirect admission that President Rodrigo Duterte is performing well in public office, and his increasing public acceptance can eventually sway in favor of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who has been reported by some media outlets as a possible presidential candidate in 2022.”
“No one from Luzon, Metro Manila or Visayas will take a serious look at Mayor Sara, should she decide to run for president, if they don’t see her as competent and prepared to be the next president. The fact remains that people vote for those who perform well and whom they see as qualified,” Almario added.
The Bloomberg interview had also quoted Robredo as saying “People think he (Duterte) is very authentic. We haven’t had a president this casual. He’s different from previous ones. I think it’s refreshing for people.”
