Senate minority leader Frank Drilon believes Vice President is the “most qualified” to lead the country after President Rodrigo Duterte’s called his successor-in-waiting “incompetent.”
“Maaga pa pulitika na. I have deatt with her. Yung puso niya ay para sa mahirap, nandoon sa mga nasa laylayan ng ating bansa, kaya siya po ang most qualified to lead the nation kung sakali,” said Drilon in a radio interview.
Robredo had previously verbalized her decision to take on the mantle of ledership for the opposition against Duterte.
“Obligasyon nating lahat na sumalungat kung kailangang sumalungat. Pero it is becoming apparent na mas malakas iyong loob ng iba na magboses kapag mayroong sinasandalan na grupo, mayroong sinasandalan na grupo na pareho iyong paniniwala sa kaniya. At iyon iyong role ko: na pag-isahin iyong mga boses na iyon,” said Robredo.
This was not taken lightly by Duterte whose threats to step down have worried supporters because it would catapult Robredo to Malacanang.
“Kung siya (Robredo) mag-presidente? Look, I will not resign because it will make her president. My resignation is addressed to the people para makapili sila ng gusto nila. I don’t think she can ever be ready to govern a country. Reason? Incompetence. She’s not capable of running a country like this, Philippines,” said Duterte.
Duterte had previously appointed Robredo as his housing czar, partly because he liked seeing her during Cabinet meetings. But he forced her to resign through his minions in less than five months after she spoke publicly against his policies, specifically Duterte’s go-signal for the hero’s burial for the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, father of losing VP bet Bongbong Marcos.
