Not so fast. The presidency won’t be given to the Vice President on a silver platter.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Vice President Leni Robredo must still join the presidential race if she is eyeing to become the country’s next leader.

Locsin tried to correct Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque who earlier said Robredo can become president if she presents a solution to the coronavirus crisis without a vaccine or cure.

“Ahhh no. She still has to run in 2022 against the smartest contenders from Senate and cities,” Locsin tweeted.

Locsin said Robredo could also become president if something bad happens to President Duterte. Under the constitutional line of succession, the Vice President becomes president in case of incapacity, death, resignation or removal from office of the incumbent.

Locsin however thinks that the chances of Robredo succeeding Duterte were nil.

“She can become president w/o benefit of election only if a bad thing happens to the President as yellows have been praying. I talked to God, He said No to them,” he said.
