Robredo refuses to accept resignations of Pangilinan, Kit Belmonte: Magdusa kayo!
Vice President Leni Robredo has refused to accept the resignations of Senator Kiko Pangilinan and Quezon City Rep. Kit Belmonte as Liberal Party officials over their failure to ensure the Otso Diretso’s victory in the 2019 senatorial race.
Robredo’s spokesperson, Barry Gutierrez, said Tuesday (May 21) that Robredo wants Pangilinan and Belmonte to continue working together.
“Much work remains to be done, and they will do it, together,” he said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, Pangilinan and Belmonte confirmed they have submitted their letters of resignation as LP’s president and secretary general, respectively.
Pangilinan said he takes full responsibility for the loss of the Otso Diretso slate.
“As campaign manager for the Otso Diretso slate, I was unable to ensure our victory in the elections and I therefore assume full responsibility for the outcome and hold myself primarily accountable for this defeat,” he said in a statement.
The Otso Diretso slate is composed of the following: Senator Bam Aquino, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, former Senator Mar Roxas, former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada, lawyers Chel Diokno and Romy Macalintal, and former Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc.
