Robredo schools Locsin: Instead of calling me ‘boba,’ why don’t you study PH passport law?
Vice President Leni Robredo advised Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. Wednesday (June 26) to study Republic Act 8239 or the Philippine Passport Act of 1996 instead of insulting her on social media.
In an interview in Camarines Sur, Robredo said the law provides clear parameters for the cancellation of diplomatic passports.
Locsin earlier called Robredo “boba” after she slammed the Department of Foreign Affairs’ decision to cancel the diplomatic pas sport of former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, as well as those of former DFA Secretaries and ambassadors.
“Mayroon tayong batas—Republic Act [No.] 8239. Bakit hindi iyon ang pag-usapan? Imbis na magsabing mali ako o bobo, bakit hindi tingnan ano ba iyong mga probisyon ng batas? Sino ba iyong tama iyong sinasabi? Kasi hindi naman ito spekulasyon kasi ang batas nakasulat,” Robredo said.
The DFA cancelled diplomatic passports issued out of courtesy after Del Rosario used his for a trip to Hong Kong last week. He was denied entry into the territory.
Locsin apologized to Robredo for the insult, saying he was at her service if she needs to be enlightened about diplomatic matters.
The Vice President, however, didn’t give a categorical response when asked if she had accepted Locsin’s apology.
“Hindi ko pinapansin iyong mga ganoong usapin kasi tingin ko, waste of time iyon,” she said.
