Robredo seeks P723M budget for 2021 but DBM slashes it to P679M
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) may have a lower budget next year if the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) proposal is approved.
The budget department has reduced the proposed allocation of the OVP to P679.74 million for 2021, from the P708.02 million allocated this year. Robredo personally appeared before a House committee hearing on Monday to defend the budget proposal and explain her programs and projects for next year.
“The OVP initially proposed a budget of P723.39 million, but the Department of Budget and Management recommended only P679.74 million for the office for 2021, a cut to the P708.02 million that it received in 2020,” Robredo’s camp wrote on Facebook.
During the House hearing, some lawmakers reportedly called for the higher budget allocation for Robredo’s office. Robredo drew praises from the lawmakers for her efforts “to uplift the lives of Filipinos through the #AngatBuhay program, and their comprehensive response to the COVID-19 crisis.”
“The solons also called for an increase to the budget of the OVP for Fiscal Year 2021, in order to further support its initiatives for Filipinos in need, especially amid the continued effects of the pandemic,” the OVP said.
Before the congressional hearing, Robredo shared a photo while waiting for their turn. The veep wore a reusable face mask during her appearance in Congress.
