House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero (1-Pacman Party-list) has reportedly suffered a bad fall during his polo training in Argentina in preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games later this month, Deputy Speaker Conrad Estrella III (ABONO) Party-list said.
Romero, team captain of the Philippine National Polo Team for the 30th SEA Games, was reportedly thrown off his horse while in a practice in Club de Polo La Cañada in Buenos Aires during the final stretch of the team’s training.
Estrella said Romero can’t walk for two days after the fall, but he was told by the Party-list Coalition President that he will still pursue his bid to lead the national team to a gold medal finish next month.
“Mikee is a made of steel both inside and out. He will recover in time for the SEA Games,” said Estrella.
During their two-week training in Buenos Aires, the Romero-led team eventually won the high goal competition championship.
The House official is expected to return home on Friday to further prepare with gold medals at stake in the polo competition.
The polo competition will be held at the Miguel Romero and Inigo Zobel fields in Calatagan, Batangas starting November 24—six days ahead of the formal opening of the 30th SEA Games on November 30.
