Romualdez says 2020 budget bill ‘pork-less,’ ‘without insertions’
House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez on Sunday confirmed that the same General Appropriation’s Bill based on the original budget proposal submitted by the executive branch was refiled and referred back to the House committee on appropriations last Wednesday without insertions.
“It was the same and original GAB based on NEP that was sent again to the Appropriations Panel,” the Leyte lawmaker said.
Last August 28, Deputy Speaker and Camarines Sur LRay Villafuerte controversially withdrew the GAB from the appropriations committee chaired by Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab, supposedly to put in amendments sought by his colleagues.
But Ungab objected, saying the GAB should be a faithful copy of the NEP.
Last Wednesday, the House refiled the withdrawn bill and sent it back to Ungab’s panel without changes.
The appropriations panel finished budget deliberations on the GAB last Friday, paving the way for floor deliberations to begin at 1 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday this week and Monday to Friday next week.
“We will work overtime to finish the budget deliberations. We are on track to meet the target deadline,” said Romualdez.
