The Philippines has not received even a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine from its longtime ally, the United States, according to Palace Spokesman Harry Roque.
In an online dialogue with the Filipino-Chinese community Wednesday, Roque said the country would only have the United States as an ally if President Rodrigo Duterte lost the 2016 elections.
“If the President did not come to power, our only BFF will be the Americans. Have we gotten a single vial of vaccine from the Americans? The answer is no,” the secretary also said.
“So tanong ko sa mga maiingay na oposisyon na maka-Amerikano, nasaan ngayon si Uncle Sam?” he asked.
So far, the Philippines has secured free Covid-19 vaccines only from the Gavi vaccine alliance Covax facility and China’s Sinovac Biotech Ltd.
