The bible of Philippine politics

Roque’s senatorial dream in limbo: Kalokohan magpatakbo ang partido ng siguradong talo!

President fential Spokesperson Harry Roque can’t make up his mind whether to run or not in the May 2019 senatorial elections after he landed nowhere near the top Top 12 senatorial bets in the recent survey just a month before the filing of candidacy.

On one hand, Roque admits that an ordinary Filipino like him has very little chance of winning against re-electionist and comebacking senators and children of famous politikos like Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos.

On the other hand, Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte proved that being at the bottom of a survey showed that the election was still anybody’s ballgame.

“This much I could say, that perhaps it’s no reason why ordinary people should stop dreaming about being elected in higher office. Kasalanan din siguro ng taumbayan iyan. Pero may pag-asa pa kasi nga nahalal naman si President Duterte. And I think he’s a phenomenon by himself because he rejected the notion of who may be elected into higher office in the Philippines. He proved that it is not always the case. So may pag-asa pa naman doon sa mga nasa hulihan ng listahan. Dahil nasa laylayan naman si Presidente Digong noong nagsimula siya, only to win with an overwhelming margin,” he added.

When asked if he would give up his drem after landing between 29th to 36th place, Roque was adamant: “Anong sinasabi mo diyan? I still have to make up my mind.”

But he admitted that political parties were realistic enough to field candiates who have a realistic chance of winning: “Siyempre po para sa mga partido, kalokohan naman iyong magpapatakbo sila ng siguradong talo. So kailangan tanggapin din na itong mga surveys na ito ay importante pa rin dahil ang nais mong mangyari sa eleksyon ay manalo.”
