Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has filed a proposed concurrent resolution extending the term of House members from three years to four years, limited to three consecutive terms, and giving the senators the same term of office.

Rodriguez filed House Concurrent Resolution 1 amending the 1987 Constitution.

He proposed the extension of the term of House members from three years to four, limited to no more than three consecutive terms. On the other hand, senators’ six-year term will be reduced to four, limited to three consecutive terms.

Rodriguez also proposed adding three senators to the current 24.

The 27 senators will come from the following regions: National Capital Region, Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Southern Mindanao and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

Rodriguez’ measure also lifts constitutional restrictions on foreign ownership of lands, educational institutions, public utility franchises, among others.
