Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag is looking to have the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City transsferred to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) reservation in Muntinlupa City.

“A 28 hectare land area will be dedicated for the establishment of CIW here at the NBP reservation,” the BuCor said in a statement.

Just this Friday (July 31), the BuCor said held a meeting regarding this possible transfer.

“Meanwhile, all the available lands are now being used for agricultural production in this time of the pandemic to support the plant plant plant initiative of the government,” the BuCor noted.

On the other hand, Bantag has expressed concerns over the presence of informal settlers around the national penitentiary.

Bantag pointed these informal settlers have been “a contributing factor in the increase of illegal activities.”
