Sakto sa Pasko! Sandiganbayan allows Jinggoy to travel to HK

The Sandiganbayan 3rd Division has granted the request of former Senator Jinggoy Estrada to take a family trip in Hong Kong.

“For the reason stated therein and considering that the right to travel is a constitutional right which cannot be impaired except in cases provided for by law, and that accused-movant Estrada has been previously granted travel abroad, the instant motion is granted,” read the anti-graft court’s resolution.

In his motion to travel, Estrada has asked to be allowed to go to Hong Kong from December 26 to 31.

“The purpose of the travel is for the family to spend the holidays together and have more time to relax and have a rest from the pressure of his everyday concerns before the campaign period,” read his motion.

Estrada has assured the court he is not a flight risk and will return to the Philippines to face his charges.

“In fact, the records of this case will show that the accused-movant has promptly complied with all the conditions set by this Honorable Court in connection with his previous travels abroad which were allowed by this Honorable Court,” he reminded.

Estrada is facing plunder and 11 counts of graft before the Sandiganbayan in connection with the pork barrel scam.

Under the charges, Estrada is accused of having received from 2004 to 2012 kickbacks amounting to P183.793 million from alleged pork barrel scam queen Janet Lim Napoles by coursing his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) through bogus non-government organizations.
