Kris Aquino wasn’t at all offended when President Rodrigo Duterte said her late mother, former President Cory Aquino, became popular as a result of the death of her father, former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
The Queen of All Media was in fact pleased over Duterte’s acknowledgement that the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos masterminded her father’s killing.
In an Instagram post Saturday (August 3), Kris told Duterte: “Thank you for acknowledging our family’s loss, and who was behind it. Salamat, Mr. President.”
Kris’ post featured a montage of photos and videos of her parents, from the time they were married up up to Cory’s death in 2009.
Her post also featured the text which read: “Maraming salamat po, Pangulong DUTERTE, dahil napangalanan ninyo ang mga kamay na may dugoi sa pagpatay kay NINOY AQUINO. (To everyone reacting to defend MOM and her LEGACY, THANK YOU, but my heart knows, she’s not affected by, nor offended about ‘popularity’- CHILL na po, she’s very HAPPY in HEAVEN with our DAD.)”
Duterte appeared to have belittled Cory’s legacy when he mentioned her in a speech in Davao City Friday (August 2).
“Cory Aquino maybe popular, she is popular today. Why? For losing the husband in the hands of Mr. Marcos,” he said.
Kris’ mother became President in 1986 after Marcos’ government was toppled by the People Power Revolution. Critics have accused the late dictator of masterminding Ninoy’s death but neither he nor his heirs or cronies were charged for the killing.
The Queen of all Media said she still admires Duterte’s authenticity over what he said about her mother.
“Kasi may quote po si PRRD na nakitaan ko ng katotohanan ang kaniyang mga nabitawang salita,” she said.

i still admire your authenticity President Duterte, but please allow a daughter to speak through this post? Kasi po sa maraming magandang narinig ko mula mismo sa mga Duterte supporters & members of government patungkol po sa inyo, lahat sila sinasabi, naguumapaw ang pagmamahal ninyo po sa inyong mommy, si Nanay Soling. Pareho po tayo, i love my mom with all my heart. 💛This video is for her, and for the only man she ever loved, my dad. To all, please watch? Kasi may quote po si PRRD na nakitaan ko ng katotohanan ang kaniyang mga nabitawang salita. Direct quote “Cory Aquino maybe popular, she is popular today. Why? For losing the husband in the hands of Mr. Marcos…” (background music was my dad’s favorite Tie a Yellow Ribbon) Thank you for acknowledging our family’s loss, and who was behind it. Salamat, Mr. President. 🇵🇭
