Albay Rep. Joey Salceda on Monday said he was just following instructions from PDP-Laban when asked about his decision to support the call to unseat Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and elect Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco as the new Speaker.
“Well, to be honest, I just follow party instructions,” the chair of the House ways and means committee said.
In an interview on ANC, Salceda said some 60 House members had gathered at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City to hold the elections.
He said the Velasco camp now had 167 signatures, although 187 had given their commitment to vote for Velasco.
Salceda said they only needed 151 votes out of the 299 House members “to be sure” about Velasco’s assumption of the speakership.
Asked about how the proceedings for Monday’s session would look like and about its legitimacy, he said he was not part of the group handling floor strategies.
“I’m really sorry, I’m not the strategist,” Salceda said.
