Sali kami dyan! Guevarra: NBI to help track down fugitive ex-solons
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will also be part of efforts to track down four fugitive former party-list lawmakers accused in the murder of four farmers.
Guevarra made the assurance after the Palayan City regional trial court (RTC) in Nueva Ecija issued arrest warrants anti-poverty chief and former Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza, former agrarian reform secretary and former Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano, and former Bayan Muna Reps. Satur Ocampo and Teddy Casiño.
“As a law enforcement agency the NBI will help, in compliance with a warrant duly issued by the court,” Guevarra said on Saturday (July 28).
The Secretary added he will no longer be issuing any order to the NBI regarding the arrest of the former lawmakers.
“All warrants of arrest are addressed to all law enforcement officers, including the NBI, commanding them to arrest the person of the accused wherever the latter may be found,” he said.
“There is no need for the DOJ to issue a separate order,” he added.
Under the charges, the former lawmakers are accused of in the murders of farmers Danilo Felipe, Carlito Bayudang and Jimmy Peralta in 2001 and 2004, respectively.
