President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday acknowledged the heroic efforts of Filipino healthcare workers and uniformed personnel as the nation commemorates the 157th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio.
“Today as we honor great Filipino hero Andres Bonifacio, we also honor our heroic frontliners, especially our healthcare workers and uniformed personnel,” Duterte said in a televised address.
The Chief Executive also recognized their services amid the country’s fight against the coronavirus disease.
“They offered their lives selflessly in the service of our nation and people. Ang saludo ko sa inyo, ganun na lang,” he added.
In a separate speech early today, Duterte encouraged the Filipino people to draw inspiration from the values and patriotism of Bonifacio.
The revolutionary legacy of Bonifacio, he added, awakened the nation’s consciousness and served as the foundation of the Philippine Republic.
“His love of country, which aroused our ancestors to fight for our freedom and secure our rightful place in the community of nations, is very vital.
“Fueled by Bonifacio’s extraordinary courage and determination, let us surmount the many challenges ahead and secure a much better and brighter future for every Filipino,” according to him.
