Sama kami! Guevarra wants DOJ involved in choosing 3rd telco
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has assured that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will help the government search for the third telecommunications player in the country.
“The DOJ’s participation, I believe, will be to review the terms of reference for the selection of the third telco, the contracts to be executed, the grant of licenses and permits, etc. to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations,” he explained on Saturday (Sept. 15).
So far, he noted that the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has sought a legal opinion regarding the grant of a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) to the third telco.
Guevarra also bared meetings which will be held with the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) in creating a panel for reviewing the process needed to select the next telco.
Earlier, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go said the DOJ and OSG will be involved in the process.
“We are involving the OSG and the DOJ, so there will be no legal loopholes and to expedite because the President is already impatient,” he explained.
