Sampalin ninyo! Duterte urges Filipinos to fight corrupt gov’t officials
President Rodrigo Duterte wants Filipinos to be more assertive if they encounter government officials who ask them for bribes.
Duterte on Thursday (December 6) said the fight against corruption will be easier if Filipinos do not give in to the wishes of corrupt government officials.
“Alam mo, itong katiwalian sa gobyerno, itong corruption, mahihinto ito. Hindi na kailangan ako mag-fire out, magmura, mga ganun. If I have a citizenry na who are assertive, huwag kayong magpadala diyan sa mga p***** i**** ‘yan,” he said in a speech during the celebration of the Department of Labor and Employment’s 85th anniversary.
Duterte urged Filipinos to slap government officials who ask them for bribes.
“‘Yung mga checkpoint, ayaw ko talaga ‘yan. I am not trying to insinuate the police and lahat ‘yan, ‘yung mga checkpoint ng fisheries, lahat. Huwag kayong bumigay. Babaan ninyo, sampalin ninyo… Tapos kung maglaban at binugbog o sinaktan ka, you call me,” he said.
Duterte said that while he is serious about fighting corruption, the battle will only be won with the public’s help.
“Pagka lumaban kayo lahat, mawawala talaga ang corruption,” he said.
