Sanay na sa resbak! Vilma Santos ready to lose leadership post for supporting ABS-CBN
Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos is prepared to lose her leadership post in the House of Representatives for voting in favor of granting ABS-CBN a new franchise.
In an interview over ANC’s “Headstart,” Santos recalled that she already experienced being stripped off her committee chairmanship when she voted against the reinstatement of death penalty when Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez was House Speaker.
“It happened to me already when I voted ‘no’ dopn sa death penalty…sinabi nila na kailangan masuportahan yong major bill nayon, `yong death penalty. I stood my ground and I voted ‘no’ so I lost my chairmanship,” she said.
Santos, one of the 22 Deputy Speakers chosen by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, said she’s ready to face consequences of her support for ABS-CBN.
“Pero kung ano man yong naging desisyon ko ngayon dito sa renewal ng franchise ng ABS-CBN at magkakaroon ulit ng ganong consequences, I think I’m prepared for that so tanggapin natin ‘yun,” she said.
Santos was one of the 11 lawmakers who voted to grant ABS-CBN’s franchise application. However, they lost to the 70 lawmakers who voted against the network.
