Sara Duterte backs all-gender ‘individual’ restrooms: Separate LGBT toilet is discriminatory

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said creating more “all-gender” individual toilets in public places will address the needs of members of the LGBTQ+ community.
In a series of Viber message to Abante/Politiko, Duterte said having more all-gender toilet or comfort room (CR) is the best way to address the needs of the LGBTQ+ community without violating the rights of persons with straight gender orientation.
“Yes, that can be an option—an ‘all-gender’ individual CR. Like how we do it with PWDs (Person with disabilities)… like how small restaurants do it,” said Duterte.
Duterte stressed that those individual facilities can accommodate every individuals regardless of their distinction or gender orientation.
“If all are for individual use, then all CRs should be (for) all gender… no distinction anymore,” said Mayor Duterte.
Mayor Duterte explained that she was opposed to the proposed separate toilet for members of the third sex or a “gender-neutral” restroom since that kind of facility is “discriminatory” and a form of “segregation” itself.
“CR should not be LGBTQ but for all-genders single individual use… there cannot be an exclusive LGBTQ+ CR because that in itself is discrimination. Because we segregate,” said Duterte.
“Hindi din (ako favor sa) gender-neutral (toilets) because that is also discriminatory,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Presidential daughter said that transgenders “who have not undergone sexual reassignment” shouldn’t be allowed to enter “multi-individual” female toilets— to protect women from men pretending to be members of LGBTQ+ just to access the ladies’ CR.
