Save the best for last! Duterte gets football jersey from FIFA exec before photo op
Contrary to the claim of some anti-administration keyboard warriors, President Rodrigo Duterte received a football jersey from a FIFA official in Thailand– he just appeared to have been bypassed.
The uncut video uploaded by FIFA and shared by the parody account Malacañang Events and Catering Services (@MalacananEvents) showed a FIFA official handing out the jerseys to the heads of state of Southeast Asian countries during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ASEAN and FIFA Saturday (November 2).
While Duterte appeared to have been bypassed in the distribution of jerseys for Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, he eventually received his jersey bearing the number 10.
All other heads of state received their jerseys before another FIFA official handed Duterte’s jersey to his colleague on stage to give to the Philippine President.
An applause broke out after Duterte unfurled his jersey. He was the only Southeast Asian head of state who picked the number 10.
FIFA gave the Southeast Asian politikos jerseys as a gesture of gratitude after they agreed to jointly host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the jerseys show that “we’re all part of the same team.”
