A shipment of coronavirus vaccine will arrive soon in Iloilo City.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has signed a deal with UK drugmaker AstraZeneca for 600,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines for his constituents. Treñas announced the signing of the supply agreement on his social media pages.

“I just signed our multilateral agreement on behalf of the City of Iloilo for the purchase of AstraZeneca Vaccine,” he said.

Treñas said the vaccine supply was made possible due to the support of the national government through vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III. He said the vaccines purchased will benefit 300,000 Iloilo City residents, or 60 percent of the population.

The mayor later shared a photo of the document related to the vaccine supply deal. For the past week, he stayed late at night to negotiate for Iloilo’s vaccine supply.

“Sharing our documentation earlier with photos taken by my children. I told them that this will be part of the history as it is for all the Ilonggos coz the vaccine will save lives & all of ur love ones will be protected. This is for all my beloved Ilonggos! Padayon. Bató Iloilo!” he said.
