Sawsaw pati si misis? Alan’s wife reportedly joins speaker lobbying, makes tearful plea to Duterte
Taguig City Rep. Lani Cayetano reportedly became emotional while trying to convince President Rodrigo Duterte to endorse the speakership bid of her husband Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
Politiko learned that the Cayetano couple had a separate meeting with the President in Tokyo, Japan a day after the earlier close-door meeting between Duterte, the former Foreign Affairs secretary and his two main rivals for the House leadership namely Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez held in Imperial Hotel Tokyo.
During the meeting, the former Taguig City mayor reportedly cried in front of the chief executive while trying to convince Duterte that he should choose Alan as the next House Speaker.
The source said Lani appealed to Duterte not only to endorse Alan but also explained the repercussion if the former top diplomat will be not chosen as the next leader of the House of Representatives.
Lani reportedly told Duterte that his husband will look like a “useless” politiko and will be laughing stock not only among his colleagues but also to critics if he won’t get the speakership.
The couple left Duterte’s room without securing his support.
Wen Velasco was earlier rumored to be actively making deals for her husband to win speaker.
Even Romualdez’s wife Rep. Yedda Marie has also allegedly taken an active role in rallying fellow party-list members behind her husband.
President Duterte has kept a hands off policy in the speakership race, saying it was up to the lawmakers to choose their own leader.
