Sayang effort! Panelo says De Lima will never get public sympathy as long as Duterte’s popular
Senator Leila de Lima will never get the public’s sympathy no matter how hard she tries to play victim, President Rodrigo Duterte’s chief legal adviser said.
Citing an online survey carried out just after De Lima’s arrest, Chief Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo on Saturday (March 4) said public opinion is lopsided against De Lima.
“Well alam mo, kahit anong gawin ni Senador De Lima, ang simpatiya ng publiko, hindi niya makukuha. Nung four days ago, five days ago na nagkaroon ng online survey regarding whether gusto nilang makulong si De Lima or hindi, eh ‘yung nagsasabing ikulong eh, walang nagsasabi na huwag siyang ikulong,” he said in a radio interview.
Panelo said the survey’s results also show Duterte remains immensely popular that the public supports his campaign to have De Lima jailed.
“Doon lang makikita mo na marami ang ayaw — overwhelming nga ang suporta kay Presidente Duterte at kontra sila. Eh kahit anong gawin niya she will not succeed,” he said.
De Lima is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame over drug-related charges filed by the Department of Justice.
Duterte previously said De Lima should be jailed for her alleged involvement in the drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.
