Sayang kita! Cynthia Villar rejects doctors’ call to place NCR back on ECQ: Pagbutihin nila trabaho nila
Senator Cynthia Villar has thumbed down the appeal of medical frontliners to place Metro Manila under enhanced community quarantine for two weeks to ease the burden on the healthcare system caused by COVID-19.
In a radio interview Saturday (August 1), Villar said the economy will suffer if Metro Manila is subjected to another lockdown.
“Hindi na siguro, pagbutihin nila trabaho nila,” she told healthcare workers. “Hindi pwedeng isara ang ekonomiya kasi kung di naman mamamatay sa COVID, mamamatay naman sa gutom ang tao.”
Villar’s husband, Manny, is the richest man in the Philippines according to Forbes Magazine. Their family runs a real estate empire.
Several medical organizations have released a petition asking for Metro Manila to be reverted to ECQ from August 1 to 15 to give the government time to recalibrate its COVID-19 response.
Despite the continued rise in COVID-19 cases, however, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Metro Manila will remain under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from August 1 to 15.
Villar said hospitals may be unable to accommodate more COVID-19 patients because they only allotted a portion of their beds to such cases.
“Konti lang kasi inilalagay nila for covid. kung 10% lang binigay mo madaling mapuno yun. Magbi-build din ng facility ang government para sa asymptomatic,” she said.
