Sayang! ‘Instant star’ Mina Chang skips PH visit to avoid distraction in US-PH dialogue
Philippine Ambassador to the United States Babes Romualdez revealed that Mina Chang, the rumored US Ambassador to the Philippines, was supposed to drop by the country last week.
Romualdez said Chang was supposed to Manila for the 8th Bilateral Strategic Dialogue from July 15 to 16 as the deputy assistant secretary at the State Department Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations.
“She was supposed to come here for the Bilateral Strategic Dialogue and then when people found out she was coming, they said she should be the ambassador, then it spread like wildfire,” he said.
“Actually, the Americans were so shocked with what happened in social media here, even Ms. Mina Chang herself was so shocked. I said ‘You’re an instant star in the Philippines. That’s why they canceled her coming here because it will distract from the BSD, it will be about Mina Chang,” he added.
Politiko reported on July 9 about rumors that Chang would be named as the next US ambassador to the Philippines in place of Sung Kim who was being moved to Indonesia in November this year.
The US denied the report but rumors persist as it has yet to name a replacement for Kim.
