The decision of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal should put to rest doubts on the victory of Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2016 election against former Sen. Bongbong Marcos.
Ako Bicol Rep. Alfredo Garbin said the decision is strong since 15 justices of the SC sitting as PET were in favor of it.
“The unanimity of the decision speaks volumes and should put to rest any doubts as regards her victory in the May 2016 elections,” said Garbin.
Meanwhile, Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate said the decision is a big slap on Solicitor General Jose Calida who tried to intervene in the electoral protest.
“As it is, the PET decision, clearly, is also a big legal slap on the Solicitor General, who even intervened in the case in support of Marcos – who is clearly, a private party!” said Zarate.
The Solicitor General is tasked to defend the government in court cases.
With the decision, Zarate said Robredo can now focus more on helping those in need.
“It is high time that this issue be put to rest as the next elections is just almost a year a way. This is also a welcome decision so that Vice President Robredo can concentrate more on her work and not be pestered by pretenders to the vice presidency,” added Zarate.
