As the government has eased quarantine restrictions, lower courts have been ordered to continue to submit to the Supreme Court (SC) reports on the release of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez gave the directive amid continued calls to release PDLs due to continued spread of the deadly of the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) in prisons and jails.
In a circular, Marquez directed that starting June 1 “all courts shall continue to submit daily report on the release of qualified Persons Deprived of Libertty.”
Marquez said the reports should include those who posted bail, availed reduced bail and recognizance for qualified indigent PDLs, and children in conflict with the law.
The court administrator also directed all courts to “continue to submit weekly reports of videoconferencing hearings conducted.”
